My Amazon FBA Journey

This blog is all about freedom and how to achieve it with Amazon FBA. Many people dream about having an income stream (or better even several), that support their lifestyle. Unfortunately that entails going to an office everyday usually. So the dilemma is that you either have money, but no time to travel the world (except maybe on your ten days vacation a year), or you do have the time, but no money to fund your adventures.

I have been looking for a long time to find something that is completely independent of location and also mostly independent of my time. I didn't have to think very hard, in order to figure out that it has to be some sort of online based business. But I didn't have much luck until recently, when it came to generating income online. I tried affiliate marketing, seo and google adwords. Even adsense (most people say, you can't make money on that since 2012). 

But it seems that it is still not only possible, but in fact the fastet way to generate a full time income online on amazon.

So on this blog I will share my findings, successes and failures with the fulfillment by amazon system. I already launched my first product, which has been a wild ride.. It's not enough yet to quit my job, but it's a start. In retrospect I'm not quite sure if it was a good idea to get into the supplement space, since it is probably the most heavily regulated industry I could have gone for. 

Tools I use for Amazon SEO

There's a lot of help and tools out there, that are essential if you want to be a successful Amazon seller. 

It's not easy to even keep track of them, since they are popping up like crazy as becoming a private label seller becomes more and more popular with house wives, and so called digital nomads (people that travel the world, while running their business from their laptop).

First and foremost you need to understand which tasks you have:

1. You need to find new products.

Not just any products. You need to know in advance if they are going to be profitable and how much you can expect to sell. Investing in a slow selling item can put you back for months in your quest. In order to find these, you need to know the daily sales, the FBA costs, the search volume, the competition etc. 

There are several useful tools for this:

Personally I use unicorn smasher by AMZtracker (it's free), as well as Sellics XRay (a pretty new amazon tool) and Junglescout. you may wonder why one of them isn't enough, and why I go through the pain of using all of them as well as paying for the latter two. Well, unfortunately it is almost impossible for any one tool to give you the exact numbers, so I have to compare the results of several of these in order to be sure. 

2. You need to predict your profit

This might be one of the hardest steps, since Amazon Seller Central only gives you very limited Data. You already did some upfront work when you did your product research right. But when you actually want to predict your profit you need to know all of your costs. That entails sourcing costs, shipping costs (especially if you source from China this can be substantial), FBA costs, Amazon fees, advertising etc. You can get to a rough estimate just using the Amazon fba calculator, but this tool just let's you calculate the basic costs, no taxes etc. So I can recommend Hello Profit for that.

3. You have to track your rankings

When you have your products launched, you need to keep track of you rankings within amazon, so you know what effects your marketing campaigns, price and other factors have within the Amazon rankin algorithm. The most popular tool for this is AMZ tracker, which also works internationally now. However, since I prefer to only use one tool for all my Amazon related tasks my go to software is Sellics, who also know great deal about Amazon SEO.

So that's it for today. There are lot's of other tasks and tools I use, that I will go into further detail about later on. Billing, Taxes and all that exciting stuff :)

4. You need to find the best keywords.

It is essential to know, what Keywords you should be ranking for and what keywords you should be bidding on. 

For this purpose, I mostly use merchantwords and sonar (which is free).
